Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve last game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest gamblers around the world. While gambling on net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He frequently participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world might just be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be found betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes Omaha and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash rounds?
