Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
