Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve final game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best bettors in the world. While playing net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total dollar value. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest poker players in the world might be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen gambling on internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in money games?
