Internet poker has become world famous recently, with televised championships and celebrity poker game shows. Its universal appeal, though, stretches back in reality a bit farther than its television ratings. Over the years several variants on the first poker game have been created, including a few games that are not really poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is one of these games. Regardless of the name, Caribbean stud poker is more closely affiliated with chemin de fer than traditional poker, in that the gamblers bet against the bank rather than the other players. The succeeding hands, are the established poker hands. There is no bluffing or other types of bamboozlement. In Caribbean stud poker, you are required to pay up just before the croupier announcing "No further bets." At that moment, both you and the bank and of course all of the other players attain 5 cards. After you have seen your hand and the bank’s first card, you have to either make a call bet or bow out. The call bet’s amount is akin to your beginning bet, which means that the risks will have doubled. Abandoning means that your ante goes immediately to the house. After the bet is the face off. If the house doesn’t have ace/king or better, your bet is given back, including an amount equal to the ante. If the casino has a hand with ace/king or better, you win if your hand is greater than the bank’s hand. The bank pony’s up money even with your ante and controlled expectations on your call bet. These expectations are:

  • Even for a pair or high card
  • 2-1 for two pairs
  • 3-1 for 3 of a kind
  • 4-1 for a straight
  • 5-1 for a flush
  • seven to one for a full house
  • 20-1 for a four of a kind
  • fifty to one for a straight flush
  • 100-1 for a royal flush
