Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve closing poker table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest enthusiasts around the world. While playing online poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amount. I think tv can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players in the world could be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be seen competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in money games?
