Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative comments from others destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing love for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
