Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative comments from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
He started competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
