Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker variations. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible game, has increased in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha/8 begins like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A round of wagering follows in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of wagering happens. After all the players have either called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of wagering follows at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few entrants often get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the best possible hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the very same notion in just about every poker game.

A lower hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the higher hand takes the complete pot.

Although it seems complex initially, after a few rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic subtleties of play simply enough. Since you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better provides an overwhelming range of betting choices and because you have several players shooting for the high, and many battling for the low hand. If you love a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
