Poker has become globally acclaimed as of late, with televised tournaments and celebrity poker game events. Its universal appeal, though, stretches back in fact a bit further than its television ratings. Over the years several variants on the first poker game have been developed, including a handful of games that are not really poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is one of the above-mentioned games. Despite the name, Caribbean stud poker is most closely resembling vingt-et-un than old guard poker, in that the players bet against the bank rather than each other. The winning hands, are the established poker hands. There is no concealment or different kinds of boondoggle. In Caribbean stud poker, you are expected to ante up before the dealer declares "No further wagers." At that moment, both you and the house and of course every one of the different gamblers are given 5 cards. Once you have seen your hand and the dealer’s initial card, you must in turn make a call bet or bow out. The call wager’s value is akin to your original wager, indicating that the risks will have increased two fold. Surrendering means that your bet goes directly to the casino. After the wager comes the conclusion. If the house doesn’t have ace/king or greater, your wager is given back, plus a sum in accordance with the initial wager. If the dealer has a hand with ace/king or greater, you succeed if your hand is greater than the dealer’s hand. The dealer pony’s up chips even with your initial bet and controlled expectations on your call wager. These odds are:

  • Equal for a pair or high card
  • 2-1 for two pairs
  • 3-1 for 3 of a kind
  • 4-1 for a straight
  • 5-1 for a flush
  • 7-1 for a full house
  • 20-1 for a 4 of a kind
  • 50-1 for a straight flush
  • one hundred to one for a royal flush
