Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five where he enjoyed playing different card games at a young age. He found himself getting very aggressive in the above-mentioned card games as he was playing his father. After graduating from high school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a little while and moved to New York City to compete in some serious chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were rough as he played extensive hours and lost most times. He earned some additional cash by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he possibly could better his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to get more rest and focus even more on poker.

The definite advancement in his game began when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best gamblers would often wager against each other. Howard was able to access several of the best minds in chess. With their help, he would hone his logical thinking techniques. He applied these strategy concepts to the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.

Howard Lederer also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. Annie was a great student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the correct decision. Howard told Annie to head out to Las Vegas and compete in the WSOP competition. Annie is one of the greatest female players the poker world ever. He relocated to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in money games for the following 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, he made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
