Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve closing poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best players in the world. While gambling on web poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amt.. I think television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world may be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be found wagering on online poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in big stakes omaha hi-low and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
