Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve closing poker table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. He won a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest players anywhere in the world. While participating in net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes most of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I think television can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players in the world might be guys you have will not have heard about. Gus can be found wagering on net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
