Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the closing poker table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest gamblers anywhere in the world. While gambling on online poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amt.. I think television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best players anywhere in the world may be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be seen wagering on online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha high and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in cash rounds?
