Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the final poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He won a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest enthusiasts in the world. While playing net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy in.

Playing for the min takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amount. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world could be players you have never heard of. Gus can be found competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money rounds?
