Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
