Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve final table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best enthusiasts in the world. While gambling on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The best players in the world might be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen wagering on net poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in high stakes omaha high and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in money games?
