Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his success. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
