Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he liked participating in various card games when he was young. He found himself becoming very competitive in these particular card games as he was competing against his father. After graduating from secondary school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little bit and headed to New York to compete in some big-time chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were difficult as he played many hours and lose most times. He earned some additional money by being an assistant for the poker players. He believed he might better his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to get more rest and focus attention even more on poker.

The definite improvement in his skills happened when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would frequently challenge each other. Howard had access into some of the foremost players in chess. With their assistance, Howard would hone his strategic thinking skills. Howard used these strategic ideas in the game of NL texas hold’em.

Howard also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie Duke was a great student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct decision. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Las Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the greatest female players the poker world ever. He headed to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in cash games for the following 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he decided to play more tournaments.
