Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
